2024-04-28T00:00:00I’ve used FTH for years and recommend it. It’s robust. However, being robust, it has a steep learning curve, so do your homework. Any and all programs suffer from the same problem: Evolving software. Whether it is the fault of Windows evolving or this genealogy program evolving, one must do some things to protect your hard-earned genealogy work. 1) Make a regular .GED (GEDCOM) file of your master file. .GED files seem to get around the evolving genealogy software problem. 2) Update your FTH at least every five years. The cost of doing so is small compared to all the hours you have put in, plus there is the added benefit of improvements in the program. 3) Print your work as soon as you can. Paper records do not evolve. A cousin had a very complete genealogy of her matriarchal line in an old Family Tree Maker program which isn’t supported anymore. However, she had printouts of the lineage. It’s taken a couple of weeks, but the lineage has been recovered and in FTH now. Genealogy is a rabbit hole, but a good hobby for which, hopefully, future generations will appreciate your work. Good luck hunting your genealogy! -

2024-03-10T00:00:00The app arrived as promised. The install went well. I am just starting to use it and will be a bit of a learning curve. The app looks pretty robust and has a lot of facets which will take some time to learn. I should have a better idea of the software working in a bout 6 months.

2023-07-26T00:00:00I bought this to import Family Tree Maker files from Broderbund's 2010 software. This software installed easily, but does not accept my huge trees with filetype ftm. I wanted to look in the User's Guide, but the PDF required a subscription to Adobe. Junk! Useless, so I have returned it to Amazon.

2021-02-15T00:00:00I received my Family Tree Heritage Gold recently and thought I might be out of my league. So glad I was wrong because it is fun to use. The manual is really big but the index helps with figuring out what to do. There are functions I know I will need help later on, but so far everything has been straight forward. The software arrived sooner than I anticipated so that was a bonus. I really like the back document function because deleting can mean a disaster. Installing the software was simple and took less time than I thought it would. This was a purchase I can recommend.

2023-08-22T00:00:00I had an older laptop and I was running an older version of this software. When I upgraded to Windows 11, I installed the older software but it didn't work. I spent a lot of time creating several family trees and was scared it was all going to be lost. I bought this newer version AND IT WORKS GREAT!! It converted my older files to newer ones and I can now update them and view them again. The software also has upgrades that make it easier to use.
