It definitely has to do with when the teeth are starting to come in. It has good grips in various locations - including a handle, which is a nice touch. It is very similar to many other teethers out there and it does not necessarily stand out, but works ok. And it is easy to clean - just pop it in the dishwasher with all the other teethers.
